The president of Argentina, Maurício Macri, celebrated the agreement between Mercosur and the European Union and stated that our neighbors can join Brazil to close a free trade agreement with the United States. The Argentine president, however, did not give details about the possible agreement.
“In a few months, we will go after EFTA (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland), and before the end of the year, we hope, Canada. Next year, we have Korea on the agenda and we are also talking to Brazil about a free trade agreement with the United States. If a market of 500 million consumers opens up for us, then the demand for our products will multiply and we have to prepare to produce more”, says Macri.
However, the president of the neighboring country highlighted that it will be necessary to open many other businesses in both countries to be able to meet the demand of the new agreement. ON the other hand, the positive point of this business is the need for more workers, which will end up generating more jobs.
“We will need more employees, more companies, more SMEs. Against all the fears they want to install, it is a lie that this agreement harms the Argentine market. It is an agreement that will generate jobs and that took into account all concerns”, he defended.
Regarding the agreement with Europe, he guaranteed that all that is needed is the approval of the European parliament and also the congresses of other countries. “After the two years that remain for all congresses to approve, there are transition processes of 10 and 15 years, deadlines that we achieved through open, honest and fair negotiation”, he concludes.
