A veterinary mission from the United States is scheduled for this Monday (10) to inspect beef and pork slaughterhouses. The audit, which will last until the 28th, will be carried out in slaughterhouses in six states: São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Goiás, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Mato Grosso do Sul. The Federal Agricultural Defense Laboratories (Federal Agricultural Defense Laboratories) will also be inspected ( LFDAs) in São Paulo and Minas Gerais, analysis centers of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa).
Audits are also planned at the Ministry's Animal Products Inspection Services (SIPOAs) in São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Goiás. The scripts will be carried out by two teams, made up of six veterinarians from the Inspection and Safety Service. Food Service of the United States (FSIS), of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
For the Minister of Agriculture, Teresa Cristina, Brazil has already fulfilled all the demands made by the Americans regarding the quality of Brazilian products and is now ready to start exporting fresh beef. In March, after negotiations with the USA, the minister said that the bureaucratic issues had been resolved with the American health authorities.
Regarding the United States' request to export pork to Brazil, Tereza Cristina explained that the Brazilian government is still evaluating the sanitary part of the import certificate. “It (authorization for the USA to export the meat) has not yet been granted, we are still discussing the health certificate”, explained the minister at the time.
In June 2017, Americans suspended purchases of beef cuts from Brazil, due to reactions (abscesses) caused in the herd by the foot-and-mouth disease vaccine. These reactions triggered the process of reducing the vaccine dose from 5 ml to 2 ml and removing saponin from the product's composition. Brazil obtained authorization in 2015 to export fresh beef to the USA, a process that dragged on for 15 years, limiting itself to selling only thermo-processed (cooked) meat to that country.
