Rio Grande do Sul has already harvested 629,244 hectares of rice from the 2018/2019 harvest, reaching 63.9% of the estimated total of 984,081 ha. Production is 4,929,365 tons to date, with an average productivity of 7,834 kilos per hectare. The data are from the Sector Policy Section of the Rio Grandense do Arroz Institute (Irga), based on information provided by the Department of Technical Assistance and Rural Extension (Dater) and the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Centers (Nates). As in the last survey, the most advanced region in the State is the Outer Coastal Plain, which records a harvested area of 86,236 ha (76.5%), production of 637,460 tons and productivity of 7,392 kg/ha. The PCE covers 28 rice-producing municipalities. Some cities in the region are already close to finishing the work, such as Cidreira (96%), Sapiranga (94.7%), Gravataí (94.4%) and Viamão (93.3%). The Western Border is the second most advanced, with 215,292 ha (71.4%), with production of 1,731,766 tons and productivity of 8,044 kg/ha. Next comes the South Zone, with 102,474 ha (65.8%), with production of 846,754 tons and the best productivity so far: 8,263 kg/ha. The Campaign harvested 86,902 hectares (61.9%), with 649,541 tons and 7,474 kg/ha of productivity. Right after is the Internal Coastal Plain, which records 83,040 ha (59.9%), 634,165 tons and productivity of 7,637 kg/ha. The Central region, in turn, has 55,300 ha (40.9%) harvested, production of 429,679 tons and 7,770 kg/ha of productivity.
