The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) announced this week that it will be extending the withdrawal of the vaccine against foot-and-mouth disease in Acre and Rondônia until May 2020. The information was published on the National Agriculture Society (SNA) portal.
According to the calendar of the National Plan for the Eradication and Prevention of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (PNEFA), the last stage of immunization of cattle and buffalo herds in these states would be in May this year. “The measure came after the realization that the bloc would not be able to guarantee the rural producer and the government the withdrawal of the vaccine within the initially proposed schedule”, informed the technical advisor of the Brazilian Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA), Ricardo Nissen .
“During the meeting held in Porto Velho – RO, on the 26th and 27th of March 2019, the actions carried out in the states of Block I were presented, and after technical evaluation of the work, there was a consensus that the Block would not be able to guarantee to the rural producer and the government to remove vaccination from the calendar”, indicated the Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil (CNA), in a statement.
“This is because there are still some steps to be taken, such as the construction of checkpoints and the execution of epidemiological studies. Therefore, aiming for greater security in complying with the Plan, it was agreed that the regions participating in Block I should carry out vaccination in the second half of 2019, according to the regional calendar”, adds the organization.
