Heated exports, the retracted sales end and expectations of a reduction in the planted area in the 2017/2018 summer harvest support corn prices in the Brazilian market.
In Paraná, according to data from the Department of Rural Economy (Deral), the corn area is expected to decrease by 33.0% in the first harvest (2017/2018), compared to the previous cycle, losing space to soybeans.
According to a survey by Scot Consultoria, in the Campinas-SP region, a 60-kilo bag is priced at
R$29.50, for immediate delivery, without shipping.
There was an increase of 15.5% in relation to the average for August this year. However, compared to September 2016, corn is still costing 26.7% less this year.
Considering the São Paulo square, it is currently possible to buy 4.88 bags of corn with the value of one arroba of beef.
The decline in the price of cattle and the increase in corn prices harmed the exchange rate for cattle farmers in September. Purchasing power in relation to inputs decreased by 7.7%, compared to August this year.
But still, it is 28.9% better compared to September last year. This means an extra bag purchased with the value of an arroba of fat cattle. The expectation is for firm and rising prices for corn this semester and the beginning of 2018.
