Joint statement from representatives of producers and industries states that ordinances will be published for PEP and Pepro
The entities that make up the rice production chain in Rio Grande do Sul issued this Friday, September 15, a note informing the joint actions carried out during this week in Brasília (DF). The meetings held in the Federal Capital aimed to find solutions to the difficulties the sector is experiencing due to the current situation. As a result, they decided to seek support from the federal government to solve problems that impact producers and industries.
The note informs that among the issues discussed during the week of meetings in Brasília were issues such as the difficulty in marketing the product both fresh and processed, the increase in imports due to the exchange rate, in addition to the negative trade balance due to this greater import. The document states that the responses given by the government were supportive and that there will be intervention to improve the situation.
According to the entities, it was agreed that in around 15 days, ordinances will be published defining standards for the flow of the product through the Product Flow Award (PEP) and the Equalizer Award Paid to the Producer (Pepro). While the ordinances are being processed by the government, the sector will be formatting the calendar and parameters for the mechanisms. The note notes that, “regardless of the implementation of these facts, it is observed that exports, according to reports from the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), are gaining strength. In addition, the production sector is already managing a new maturity calendar with creditors. The rice production chain considers that these actions, together, could give the market a different direction.”
The statement thanked the unrestricted and unconditional support of federal deputy Alceu Moreira (PMDB-RS), who coordinated these meetings with the federal government and was decisive in achieving these mechanisms to assist the rice sector in Rio Grande do Sul, and had the unrestricted collaboration of the chief minister of the Civil House, Eliseu Padilha, and the Minister of Agriculture, Blairo Maggi.
The joint note was signed by the Agriculture Federation of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (Farsul), the Federation of Rice Growers' Associations of Rio Grande do Sul (Federarroz), the Rio Grandense do Arroz Institute (Irga), the Federation of Rice Cooperatives of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (Fearroz), Brazilian Rice Industry Association (Abiarroz), Rice Industries Union of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (Sindarroz), Pelotas Rice Industries Union (Sindapel) and Brazilian Parboiled Rice Association (Abiap).
