The price of corn remained firm in the domestic market due to exports and the rains in mid-August, which hindered the harvest of the second crop in some regions. Exports were 3.30 million tons in August, up to the third week, equivalent to 235.86 thousand tons per day (MDIC). The daily average was 235.86 thousand tons, 113.2% higher than the average shipped per day in July. Compared to August 2016, the daily export volume increased by 111.5%.
According to a survey by Scot Consultoria, in the Campinas-SP region, a 60-kilo bag closed August priced at R$26.50, for immediate delivery, without shipping. In relation to the July average, the price rose 2.0%. However, this price is 41.9% lower compared to the same period in 2016. The expectation is for a firm price in this semester and the beginning of 2018, due to exports, which should continue to be strong in the coming months. In any case, prices are expected to be below the level seen in the same period last year.
