The monthly survey by Embrapa Swine and Poultry showed that last July the cost of chicken production (base: poultry farm with positive air conditioning in the state of Paraná) was R$2.29/kg. This means that, nominally, it fell back to a value close to that recorded two years ago, in July 2015, when the cost recorded was R$2.30/kg.
Although lower, the July cost was not much different from those collected in May (R$2.31/kg) and June (R$2.30/kg). But it was 21% below the value recorded a year earlier – R$2.91/kg in July 2016, the third highest cost ever faced by the sector. Furthermore, it corresponded to the lowest value in the last 25 months.
Considering the amount raised at the end of 2016 – R$2.71/kg in December – the last cost was 15.5% lower, falling back to the approximate average of 2.4% per month. Compared to the peak – R$3.13/kg in June 2016 – the most recent cost is almost 27% lower.
