In its 13th edition, the Bahia Farm Show may already reach the status of the 2nd largest agricultural fair in Brazil. This is the expectation of the organizers of what is already considered the “biggest stage” of agribusiness in the North and Northeast Regions heard by Agrolink.
The official opening of the event, which took place on the morning of this Tuesday (30.05), was attended by the biggest leaders in the sector in the region and politicians from the State of Bahia. The president of the fair and the Association of Farmers and Irrigators of Bahia (Aiba), Celestino Zanella, welcomed and presented a commemorative plaque to Mr. Odacil Ranzi, a farmer symbol of pioneering spirit who celebrated 37 years since arriving in western Bahia.
The mayor of the municipality of Luís Eduardo Magalhães, Oziel Oliveira, praised the presence of the main banks operating in agribusiness. He added that only Banco do Brasil has already guaranteed R$ 1 billion to finance purchases during the fair, and that Bradesco has not even set a limit for injecting credit to farmers in the region.
Oziel also announced the signing of an agreement with the state and federal governments to double the collection with ITBI to direct all resources to improving roads and infrastructure in the city and surrounding areas. With these measures, the idea is to transform Luís Eduardo Magalhães into the “agricultural hub of the west”.
The Secretary of Agriculture of Bahia, Vitor Bonfim, announced bold plans: to increase from the current 160 thousand hectares to no less than one million hectares irrigated in the state. To achieve this goal, he revealed technical cooperation with the State of Nebraska (USA), which has similar soil characteristics and already irrigates four million hectares.
