The capital of Sergipe will host the third edition of the Symposium of the Northeast Plant Genetic Resources Network (RGV-NE), which will take place from October 8th to 11th at the Hotel Mercure, on one of the most charming seafronts in the country. Promoted by RGV-NE and the Brazilian Society of Genetic Resources (SBRG), the event's central theme is 'Agrobiodiversity: value, conservation and use', and is carried out by Embrapa, with support from the Ministries of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services and Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, in addition to CNPq and the Federal Universities of Sergipe (UFS) and Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB).

Among the main themes of the symposium are the conservation of agricultural biodiversity and strategies for conservation and sustainable local development; innovation strategies for access to genetic resources for food, including underutilized plants and new eating habits. In addition, procedures for evaluating and using germplasm in the face of the challenge of climate change will be discussed, as well as accessing and discovering new uses for plants, even aiming to improve human health and nutrition.
The vast program includes conferences, lectures, round tables, oral and poster sessions, in which professionals and students from the Northeast region will have the opportunity to present results of research carried out in the most diverse institutions. The organizers estimate more than 200 participants, including researchers, professors, public policy makers, students, technicians, independent professionals, farmers, traditional communities and representatives of non-governmental organizations.
The event will also promote “Genetic Resources in the Park”, which will be held in Parque da Sementeira and will aim to popularize the topic among society. There will also be a technical visit to the Caju Private Natural Heritage Reserve (RPPN) and the germplasm banks located in the Embrapa Tabuleiros Costeiros experimental field, in Itaporanga d'Ajuda, in the Vaza-Barris River estuary.
