2a. he edition of the Quem é Quem award was awarded this Tuesday (25), during the opening ceremony of the largest poultry and swine fair in Latin America, which takes place in Florianópolis (SC).

An award to recognize the work and importance of Brazilian cooperativism. This is the objective of the “Who's Who: The Biggest and Best Brazilian Poultry and Swine Cooperatives” award, promoted for the second consecutive year by the Organization of Brazilian Cooperatives (OCB) with support from Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) and Gessulli Agribussiness, delivered during the opening ceremony of AveSui 2017, the largest fair in the poultry and pork sector in Latin America, this Tuesday, April 25, in Florianópolis (SC). There are four categories: Financial Performance, Social Responsibility, Environmental Responsibility and Sustainable Development.

Frimesa was the winner in two categories: Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development. The winner in the Financial Performance category was Cooperativa Central Aurora Alimentos, while the Environmental Responsibility award was given to Frísia Cooperativa Agroindustrial.

For Luiz Vicente Suzin, president of the Organization of Cooperatives of Santa Catarina (OCESC) and representative at the Organization of Brazilian Cooperatives (OCB) event, “despite all the difficulties in the Brazilian economy, cooperatives closed 2016 with growth. But this is done through partnership work with rural producers. Cooperatives always try to do the best, from the field to the industry, with respect for the consumer, which is why we maintain the growth scenario throughout the year”. Present at the opening ceremony, the vice-governor of Santa Catarina, Eduardo Pinho Moreira, recalled that “Santa Catarina stands out for its history of relevance in animal health, being the only state free from foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination. The focus, in the state, was to value agribusiness, which is responsible for a third of Santa Catarina’s GDP”.

Recognition of personalities from the poultry and swine sector

In addition to the cooperatives, several technical and business personalities were honored with the “Oswaldo Gessulli Personalities of Brazilian Poultry and Pig Farming” award, granted by the Oswaldo Gessulli Institute with the aim of recognizing professionals who played a significant role in the development of these markets in the country.
