Syngenta disclosed its position regarding the decision of the Court of Justice of Rio Grande do Sul, which determined the ban on the sale of the fungicide Mertin 400 (Fentin Hydroxide) in the state, as well as the recall of the product sold within 60 days. Rice farmers would be applying the product to irrigated crops, failing to comply with the recommendations in the agrochemical leaflet.

“Syngenta clarifies that Mertin 400 is a fungicide registered for the control of diseases in bean and cotton crops, as expressly stated in the product leaflet. The company will not comment on the legal action, as it has not yet been formally notified. Syngenta reinforces that it follows the highest standards of ethics and safety, that it complies with all standards regarding the production and marketing of its products and that it condemns the irregular use of its technologies. Furthermore, it states that it works directly in favor of good agricultural practices in order to promote sustainable agriculture.”
