FMC Agricultural Solutions announced this Wednesday (15.03) the launch of Quartzo, a biological product for controlling nematodes in various crops. According to the manufacturer, the product is highly effective and is recommended for any crop with the presence of root-knot nematodes (Pratylenchus zeae and P. brachyurus) and root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne incognita and M. javanica).
Biological product with low toxicity, Quartz has a WG formulation and high concentration, as well as multiple mechanisms of action, arising from the synergistic action between the bacteria Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus licheniformis. According to the FMC, the bionematicide can be applied both at the time of planting and when transplanting seedlings, during the cultivation cycle or even after harvest.
“The product is of biological origin, in addition to being safer and easier to use. It has a low impact on the microbial flora of the soil, is highly effective in managing nematodes, creating a protective biofilm around the root, which optimizes the absorption of water and nutrients, culminating in increased productivity” comments Ronaldo Pereira, Vice President FMC America Latin.
Pereira says he is “confident that Quartz will be excellent in integrated pest management and resistance management, easy to handle and safe for the applicator and the environment. A powerful tool to help with the international certification process and helps any agricultural crop express its potential.”
The so-called lesion nematodes have become one of the main challenges for farmers, as they cause lesions on the roots that serve as a 'gateway' for bacteria and fungi that cause necrosis and rot. Due to their wide geographic distribution and number of host plants, these nematodes represent a great economic risk.
By affecting the root system, root-knot nematodes reduce the absorption of water and nutrients, reducing growth and causing yellowing of the leaves. As a result, the plant ends up suffering qualitative and quantitative losses in productivity.
