Egg prices reacted again in this second week of March, according to data from Cepea, driven mainly by stronger demand with the beginning of the Lent period. Traditionally, egg sales increase during this period, which is considered promising for poultry farmers.
Furthermore, according to Cepea researchers, the still restricted supply, due to the discards of laying hens at the beginning of the year, reinforces the upward movement in prices. From the 2nd to the 9th of March, the price of a box of 30 dozen extra white eggs to be collected in Bastos rose by 1.4%, closing at R$ 88.71 this Thursday, the 9th. For the product placed in Greater São Paulo, this Thursday's price was R$ 94.49, a reaction of 1.5% for the week. For the extra red type egg, to be collected in Bastos, the increase was 1.7% in the week, at R$ 105.17/cx on the 9th. The red product placed in Greater São Paulo closed at R$ 110.72/cx, 2.5% higher than the average of day 2.
