In the opinion of senior analyst at Consultoria Trigo & Farinhas, Luiz Carlos Pacheco, the time for exporting wheat purchased at official auctions will be “extremely reduced”. “We all know that most of the business done at wheat auctions is for export. It turns out that the export window in Paraná is already practically closed (because the harvest has already started) and in the port of Rio Grande it will close on March 15th, that is, there will only be 19 days to negotiate the lots abroad, contract and load (all) wheat ships”, he warns.
“The deadline for naming any grain ship is 15 days. So, either Conab holds just one more auction with the entire volume of wheat it wants to dispose of or it will only be exported after soybean shipments are completed, from August onwards (but, where to store this wheat until then and at what cost ?)”, he asks.
In the expert's opinion, none of this would need to happen if those responsible for marketing in the state had gone out into the field looking for buyers for this wheat (as Argentines, Americans and Russians do) on the international market when the super harvest began, last October.
“We draw your attention to this, because there will be a meeting on March 3rd, preparatory to ExpoDireto, on this subject. Our wheat export project from RS, with suggestions that go far beyond the sector's normal procedures (because the hole is much lower), remains available”, he concludes.
