The Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex) announced this Monday (16) that the volume of corn unmilled (except sweet corn) exported so far in September 2024 reached 3,075,981.1 tons. In comparison, this figure represents only 35.16% of the total exported in the same month in 2023, which was 8,746,381.3 tons.
Furthermore, in the first 10 working days of September 2024, the daily average of shipments was 307,598.1 tons. Consequently, this value reflects a decrease of 29.7% compared to the daily average recorded in the same period last year, when it reached 437,319.1 tons.
According to Royal Rural market analyst Ronaldo Fernandes, the sector is concerned about Brazil’s export capacity for this corn harvest. “In July, we already exported less than expected, August ended with almost 1 million tons less, and now, in September, we have a smaller line-up than expected. Conab estimates exports of around 30 million tons, but our internal figure is 40 million. Even if we reach 40 or 41 million, there will still be a considerable corn stock left,” Fernandes points out.
Billing and average price
In terms of revenue, Brazil has so far collected US$$ 606.522 million from corn exports in September 2024. On the other hand, in the same month last year, the total collected was US$$ 1.993 billion. Consequently, this results in a daily average of US$$ 60.652 million, which in turn represents a decrease of 39.2% when compared to the US$$ 99.685 million recorded daily in September 2023.
The average price per ton of Brazilian corn also fell. In September 2023, the value was US$$ 227.90, while in the first week of September 2024, the average price fell 13.5%, to US$$ 197.20.
