The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) suspended the recommendation for the use in Brazil of 63 fungicides used to control Asian rust (Phakopsora pachyrhizi) in soybean crops. The measure was published in the Official Gazette of the Union (Act 71), in December 2016. The decision provides for the exclusion of the Asian rust control recommendation from the leaflet of the products listed below within 90 days, starting from December 16, 2016.
The measure was based on the evaluation of effectiveness reports and technical opinions by the Technical Committee for the Agronomic Reassessment of Formulated Pesticides Products for the Control of Phakopsora pachyrhizina Soybean Culture. In 2016, the Commission evaluated fungicides with isolated active ingredients, based on efficacy reports and technical opinions sent by manufacturing companies. The Commission's work continues in 2017, with the evaluation of fungicides formulated in mixtures.
According to researcher Cláudia Godoy, from Embrapa Soja, this reassessment has been carried out due to the reduced sensitivity of the fungus Phakopsora pachyrhizi to some fungicides. Many registered fungicides have had their efficiency reduced due to adaptation of the fungus, although until now their labels have not been changed, which could induce producers to use products with low efficiency and loss of productivity due to this disease.
