In her presentation at the VegOil&Meals Trade conference held today in Seville, Spain, Laura Pereira, specialist in sunflower oil and olive oil, released harvest estimates for oilseeds in Brazil for 2023/24. According to Laura, the soybean harvest in Brazil is expected to decrease to 147.68 million tons, compared to 154.6 million tons last season, but still higher than the 125.54 million tons harvested in the year 2021/22 .
The expert also highlighted that the production of sunflower in Brazil it should be lower than last year, reaching 81.3 thousand tons, in contrast to the 85.2 thousand tons of the last harvest.
On the other hand, harvesting canola should grow significantly, reaching 177.5 thousand tons, compared to the 146.5 thousand tons recorded in the year 2022/23. Laura pointed out that the estimates for the oilseed harvest are strongly influenced by weather conditions.
Despite the reduction in the harvest of soy, Brazil continues to be the world's largest producer of the commodity, with a share of 39% in global production. The United States occupies second place, with 113.34 million tons (29% share of world production), followed by Argentina, with 50 million tons (13% share).
