On November 29, Ourofino Agrociência and Embrapa Genetic Resources and Biotechnology met in Brasília (DF) to sign a biological cooperation agreement, which aims to develop a new line of biological products (bioinsecticides, bioherbicides, biofungicides, among others). ).
This market is booming. According to data from Dunham Trimmer (Farm Chemicals International), between 2007 and 2015, the sector grew by more than 300%, being valued at around US$ 2 billion. In Brazil, in 2014, the segment corresponded to US$ 113 million, according to the Brazilian Association of Biological Control Companies (ABCBio).
“We want to be Embrapa’s counterpart in formulating organic products that reach the market quickly and with the capacity to meet the needs of national producers in a sustainable way. We will take advantage of the deep scientific knowledge accumulated by Embrapa over these more than four decades and contribute to shortening the path between laboratory and field”, highlights Norival Bonamichi, president of Ourofino Agrociência, who also reinforced the importance of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) .
The biological cooperation agreement aims to transform science into wealth for agribusiness. To this end, Ourofino Agrociência, a Brazilian company, will develop formulations suited to the local climatic condition, which records high temperatures and high pressure from pests and diseases, as well as heatstroke and other characteristic factors that make Brazil a unique country. “Science is the engine of the country’s development. Anyone who aspires to leadership needs to invest to strengthen the various segments of the economy, including agriculture”, says Maurício Antonio Lopes, president of Embrapa.
Who also reinforces the importance of the agreement is José Manuel Cabral de Sousa Dias, interim head of Embrapa. “The results of the research will generate innovative products for a market eager for the union of management, which is often necessary.”
The signing of the biological cooperation agreement was part of the anniversary ceremony of Embrapa Genetic Resources and Biotechnology, which celebrates 42 years in 2016. On the occasion, several authorities were present, including the president of Embrapa of Ourofino Agrociência.
