Iran and Pakistan asked the UN Security Council in a joint statement issued on Wednesday. The statement calls for action to be taken against Israel, saying the country has “illegally” attacked neighboring countries and foreign diplomatic facilities.
The statement, released by Pakistan's Foreign Ministry, followed a three-day visit by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to the country, at a time of rising tensions in the Middle East.
Last Friday, explosions were heard over the Iranian city of Isfahan. According to sources, it was an Israeli attack. However, Tehran downplayed the incident and said it had no plans to retaliate.
“Recognizing that the irresponsible act of Israeli regime forces was a major escalation in an already volatile region. ” The countries call on the UN Security Council to halt illegal actions by Israel against neighbors, according to the joint statement.

Raisi promised to raise trade between Iran and Pakistan to US$10 billion a year before leaving for Sri Lanka on Wednesday. During his visit to Pakistan, as reported by the official Iranian news agency IRNA, Raisi stated that any new Israeli attack on Iranian territory could drastically alter the dynamics and result in the total destruction of the “Zionist regime.”
On April 13, Tehran launched missiles and drones at Israel in what it said was retaliation for Israel's alleged attack on the Iranian embassy compound in Damascus on April 1. However, almost all were shot down.
Pakistan had previously called for de-escalation by “all parties”. Furthermore, during Raisi's visit, Iran and Pakistan committed to boosting trade and energy cooperation, including a major gas pipeline deal that was delayed due to geopolitical issues and international sanctions.
