Orange crops in the state of São Paulo are at “peak harvest” and fruit prices are traded at twice the value seen in the same period last year. According to Cepea data, in September (until the 22nd), the average for table pears is R$ 25.92/cx of 40.8 kg, 97% above the September/15 value, in nominal terms.
Some deals are closed above R$ 30.00/box of 40.8 kg. The boost to values in the countryside comes from the limited supply in the state of São Paulo, the heated demand in the table market, the strong absorption of pear oranges by industries in São Paulo and the volumes already committed to short and medium-term contracts. The expectation is that values will increase even further until the end of this harvest, as most producers are betting on a scarcity of the variety.
