This Tuesday, September 13th, the Legislative Assembly of Rio Grande do Sul will vote on Governor José Ivo Sartori's veto of Bill (PL) 181/2013, which deals with the deferral of ICMS on rice production. The Federation of Rice Growers Associations of Rio Grande do Sul (Federarroz) is against the proposal and is mobilizing the sector to follow the vote in the state legislature.
According to the entity's president, Henrique Dornelles, producers have already mobilized and visited parliamentarians and bench leaders with the request to maintain the executive's veto on the law. “The proposal for this law comes at an inopportune time as the government, industries and producers had already agreed on the issue of legislation and taxation of production”, he emphasizes.
Dornelles states that Federarroz is concerned about the developments that will come from the approval of this law if the governor's veto is not maintained. Reinforces that the production chain is closed to maintain the governor's veto. “Although the law is not explicit about the risks that the sector faces, we are clear about these developments. The presence of rice farming leaders this Tuesday at the Assembly is very important”, he highlights.
The president of Federarroz also states that the entity defends a balance of actions and a movement towards clarity and transparency between the sectors involved in the production chain. “This law destroys the entire sense of the production chain as the interests of the few prevail over common sense”, he highlights.
