Brazilian pork exports (including all products, both fresh and processed) ended 2023 with a record performance, totaling 1.229 million tons, reports the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA).
Furthermore, the result exceeds the total volume shipped in 2022 by 9.8%, with 1.120 million tons. In terms of revenue, international pork sales reached US$ 2.818 billion in the twelve months of 2023, a record number that exceeds by 9.5% the balance achieved in 2022, which was US$ 2.572 billion.
Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA, sees 2023 with fluctuating costs but maintaining 2022 levels, driven by new markets and expectations.
The sector's exports closed the last month of the year with a positive result. In total, 110.9 thousand tons were shipped in December, a performance 7.91 TP3T higher than the 102.8 thousand tons exported in the same period of 2022. In contrast, pork exports totaled US$ 231.5 million, 8.81 TP3T less than US$253.8 million in December 2022.
In 2023, Brazilian pork exports to China fell by 15.6%, totaling 388.6 thousand tons. On the other hand, Hong Kong, Philippines, Chile, Singapore, Uruguay, Vietnam and Japan increased their imports, with emphasis on the Philippines (+58.8%) and Chile (+44.2%).
“The year 2023 ends with an increase in pork exports, driven by the diversification of destinations in the second half. This is especially true in relation to countries in Asia and the Americas”, analyzes Luís Rua, markets director at ABPA.
Santa Catarina leads exports with 663.3 thousand tons (+10.05%), followed by Rio Grande do Sul (280.9 thousand, +5.07%), Paraná (169.9 thousand, +7.61%), Mato Grosso (31 .1 thousand, +44.1%) and Mato Grosso do Sul (24.8 thousand, +19.44%).
