China revises labeling measures for agricultural GMOs

China revisa medidas de rotulagem para trangênicos agrícolas

China has updated its guidelines on labeling genetically modified organisms (GMOs) agricultural, as revealed in a report from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The People's Republic of China (PRC) communicated the changes to the World Trade Organization (WTO) on November 24, as indicated in the USDA report entitled “China – Revised Draft Measures on Labeling Agricultural GMOs”.

Preliminary revisions cover mandatory labeling. When the content of transgenic ingredients exceeds 3% in a single crop, there will be changes to the products in the catalog. Additionally, requirements for “non-GMO” labeling will be adjusted. This information is detailed in the November 29 report from the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS).

The USDA has not set a deadline for comment, as reported.
