Government members announced this Friday (8) that they are working to ensure that the supply of ethanol intended for blending with gasoline is not interrupted in India. This comes one day after restrictions were imposed on ethanol production from sugar cane, aimed at boosting stocks of the sweetener.
Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra proposes measures to achieve the government's target. One of them is to use corn in ethanol production. The objective is to reach 20% of gasoline mixture by 2025/26. Petroleum Secretary Pankaj Jain says the target is in place.
Irregular rains in the states of Maharashtra and southern Karnataka have raised concerns about this year's sugar production, resulting in the government's directive to sugar mills.
