Compared to the same quarter of 2022, cattle slaughter grew by 11.1%, chicken slaughter increased by 3.1% and pig slaughter increased by 0.5%, according to a report from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), released this Thursday (9). Compared to the 2nd quarter of 2023, cattle slaughter increased by 5.8%, chicken slaughter increased by 1.4% and pig slaughter increased by 3.7%.
6.20 billion liters of milk were purchased, 0.8% more than in the 3rd quarter of 2022 and 8.4% above that obtained in the immediately previous quarter. The acquisition of leather pieces by tanneries grew by 6.6% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2022 and 3.0% compared to the immediately previous quarter, totaling 8.63 million whole pieces of raw leather. 1.06 billion dozen chicken eggs were produced in the 3rd quarter of this year, with increases of 1.9% in the year and 1.0% in the quarter.
Cattle slaughter increases 11.1% in the year and 5.8% in the quarter
In the 3rd quarter of 2023, 8.85 million heads of cattle were slaughtered under some type of health inspection. In the third quarter of 2023, there was a significant increase of 11.1% compared to the same period in 2022. Additionally, a growth of 5.8% was observed compared to the second quarter of 2023.
In the third quarter of 2023, beef carcass production reached 2.36 million tons, representing an increase of 8.9% compared to the same quarter of the previous year. In relation to the second quarter of 2023, there was an increase of 8.6%, totaling a positive scenario for the sector.
Chicken slaughter grows by 3.1% in the annual comparison and 1.4% in the quarterly comparison
In the 3rd quarter of 2023, 1.58 billion chicken heads were slaughtered. This result meant an increase of 3.1% compared to the equivalent quarter of the previous year and an increase of 1.4% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2023.
The accumulated weight of carcasses was previously 3.31 million tons in the 3rd quarter of 2023. This total thus meant an increase of 3.4% in relation to the 3rd quarter of 2022 and, at the same time, a reduction of 1.3% compared to the immediately previous quarter.
Pig slaughter increases by 0.5% in the year and 3.7% in the quarter
Pig slaughter, after all, totaled 14.60 million heads in the 3rd quarter of 2023. In fact, there were increases of 0.5% compared to the same quarter of 2022 and 3.7% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2023.
Previously, in the third quarter of 2023, the total carcass weight reached 1.37 million tons. This, similarly, represents an increase of 2.4% compared to the same period in 2022 and a growth of 3.9% compared to the previous quarter.
Milk acquisition increases 0.8% in the annual comparison and 8.4% compared to the previous quarter
In the third quarter of 2023, establishments under health inspection (federal, state or municipal) purchased 6.20 billion liters of raw milk. The value registered an increase of 0.8% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2022. Furthermore, it showed an increase of 8.4% compared to the previous quarter.
Leather acquisition increases by 6.6% in the year and 3.0% in the quarter
The tanneries investigated by the Quarterly Leather Survey – those that tan at least 5,000 whole units of raw bovine hide per year – declared, however, to have received 8.63 million whole pieces of raw bovine hide in the 3rd quarter of 2023. The quantity in question presents an increase of 6.6% compared to that recorded in the 3rd quarter of 2022. Furthermore, there is an increase of 3.0% compared to the previous quarter.
Chicken egg production grows by 1.9% in the year and 1.0% in the quarterly comparison
The production of chicken eggs was 1.06 billion dozen in the 3rd quarter of 2023. However, the result represented increases of 1.9% compared to the same period of the previous year and 1.0% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2023 .
