The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) confirmed, this Wednesday (18), the alert status of a new heat wave. This is increasing temperatures in Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, western Goiás and some areas in Tocantins. According to the official publication, the intense heat is expected to persist until October 21st, with temperatures at least 5ºC above the average for the period.
The action of a mass of dry air, however, prevents the advance of heavy clouds in the area. According to the most recent forecasts, the rains should arrive with more intensity only after October 26th, both in the Central-West and Southeast of Brazil.
The temperature forecast model, however, indicates a maximum of around 40ºC in Mato Grosso, Goiás and in an area in the north of MS.
In addition, high temperatures also indicate in the west of São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Matopiba. In these areas, maximum temperatures between 32ºC and 38ºC are predicted for the next few days. Therefore, it is important to be prepared for challenging weather conditions.
The GFS model predicts even more intense heat in the Center-West of Brazil with maximum temperatures reaching up to 46ºC in the south of Mato Grosso. The model also indicates temperatures of around 40ºC in Matopiba, with emphasis on Tocantins and Maranhão, which are expected to record the highest temperatures in the period.
“A large mass of dry and hot air influences the Northeast and few clouds form over most of this region. Low air humidity inhibits the formation of large clouds”, adds the Climatempo forecast.
